Zimbabwe’s Deepening Crisis – What we have to do NOW!
Since 2016 the Platform for Concerned Citizens (PCC), in conjunction with SAPES Trust and other civic bodies at home and in the diaspora, has argued consistently for a process leading the establishment of a national transitional authority, an NTA. This was in realization that the national crisis then, an even more so now, in the COVID-19 crisis, required a broad national effort to avoid what we termed “hard landing”.
Zimbabwe had landed harder than anyone could have imagined in 2016, or in any subsequent year. We now live in a “broken” country with a regime collapsing in on itself, political parties more concerned with the struggle for power and internecine conflicts than addressing a national crisis
What is unarguable is that the state was broke already, reeling from an absence of visionary leadership, incoherent policies, a broken economy, broken state services, and Spector of mass hunger and starvation.
We submit that it is a matter of the greatest urgency that the country decides on the way forward out of the crisis. Whatever the case, we must decide what is to be done NOW.
